Dave Of The Open Ranch, aka Jordy is a stunning buckskin dun registered draft cross gelding that stands 15 hands and weighs a solid 1300 pounds.
Jordy is that ranch horse everyone looks for. He is a horse that would make John Wayne jealous.
We bred, raised, and trained Jordy right here on our ranch. His sire, we showed for seven years and is such a gentleman. Winning several buckles in the cutting pen. The dam is our best pulling horse she will out pull every horse on the farm. She even out pulls my 17 hand shire stallion. She never quits trying. Jordy is just like that. He has so much grit he won’t stop until the job is done. If you’re looking for a horse that will take you miles and go all day and still have horse at the end of the day, Jordy is your guy. You point him to any job he goes to it, and tries his hardest. You can walk away from a group of horses and go to work, he has never been herd bound. His walk could keep up with Paso Finos he is so purpose bound. Jordy has done it all. Sorting, trail competitions, roping calf’s, cutting, barrels. Winning ribbons along the way. He can side-pass with ease and moves off your leg. He can instantly get into a gallop. He knows his leads and is well on his way to spinning and slide stopping. He is hardworking enough for any serious legit cowboy while being safe enough for my nine year old to go out and check fences. His feet are in excellent condition, solid and black. He has never needed shoes just regular trimming. Easy to trim, deworm, trailer, clip and such a gentleman in his stall. Jordy is an easy keeper as well. He sells 100% sound. Jordy would do amazing with someone with soft hands. He has never ever offered to buck or any silly business. Not for a beginner because he responds quickly to cues. My nine year old son gets along with him great. He has soft hands and does a great job asking for go instead of right to kicking. Jordy is a pretty Buckskin with a nice head and perfect height, plenty of bone from the draft. Still keeping the athleticism and endurance of the quarter horse. Hooking him up with full drafts you wouldn’t even know he isn’t a full draft by how he pulls. It will be sad day to see Jordy leave he is a favorite on the ranch. You can always rely on him.
