Root Beer is a 7-year-old who came to us with just 30 days on him, and over the last three years, he’s grown into a wildly capable, endlessly entertaining little workhorse.
Whether he’s dragging calves in the branding pen, heeling steers in the roping arena, navigating a trail like a pro, or playing rodeo pony for a kid with big dreams — Root Beer’s done a little bit of everything. With a big stop, soft face, and a motor that won’t quit, he’s got all the makings of a top-tier breakaway or play day pony. Open gates? Check. Work cows? Loves it. Handle a rope? All day long. He’s even started on tricks — bowing and sidepassing to the fence with just a snap.
Our 11-year-old daughter has ridden him to push steers, gather cattle, rope the dummy, and just go have fun. This pony has heart for days and zero clue he’s only 12.2 hands — he shows up like he’s 16.2 draft cross and ready to clock in.
Root Beer is a step-up pony with the athleticism and drive to go far. He’s reliable and honest when kept on a job, though he can be a little ‘ranchy’ with time off and a little mouthy when bored — never mean, just looking for something to do. He thrives on routine and responsibility, and we’d love to see him land somewhere he can keep shining.
And after a good ride? He’ll give you a little nicker when you swing off. That’s Root Beer — full of charm, full of try, and ready for his next big adventure.
