Cowpony Sales is partnering with the South Dakota Reined Cow Horse Association Stallion Stakes to offer an opportunity for owners, of South Dakota Stallion Stakes eligible horses, to sell on a National level with professional marketing services. All aged horses, from weanlings to finished performance horses, are eligible.
Cowpony Sales is offering a reduced consignment fee, for all participants, as well as donating half of all commissions retained from each sale, directly back into the Stallion Stakes program, to aid in the continued growth and development of the long standing program.

Consignment Deadline: August 16th
All eligible horses need to have materials submitted by August 16th to be included. Review the Required Materials List in advance to ensure you have what’s required to properly market your consignment on a National level. Contact Cowpony Sales for any assistance gathering your Required Materials.

Sale Dates: August 23rd – September 5th
All horses will be available for viewing and bidding online starting Wednesday August 23rd and will end Sunday September 5th.
Eligibility
All consigned horses must be eligible to participate in the SDRCHA Stallion Stakes. View the current list of enrolled Stallions HERE.
Marketing
All consigned horses will receive National level advertising throughout the consignment period. There will be no additional fees for the paid advertising each consignment will receive.
Consignment Fee
All entries will pay a reduced consignment fee of $15o which will cover all National advertising, marketing, web hosting, email marketing, social media, text marketing and protection via Cowpony Sales Terms & Conditions.
Reserve Price & No Pass Out Fee
Seller has the option to set the reserve price at the time of listing. This number is not shared publicly and can be lowered before auction end (it may not be raised). There is no pass out (no sale) fee if the horse does not sell.
Commission & Payments
Cowpony Sales will retain 8% of the sold price of each horse for commission, with half being donated back to the SDRCHA Stallion Stakes program. Sellers will be paid via Direct Pay or Check (whichever they prefer).
Does the horse have to be present at the Road to Texas Futurity & Derby?
No, the horse does not need to be at the show. All horses will stay at their current location during the auction. It is the buyer’s responsibility to arrange transportation at the conclusion of the auction. Cowpony Sales has transporters that can be recommended if needed.
How do I know if my horse is eligible to be consigned?
All horses must be sired by a SDRCHA Stallion Stakes enrolled stallion OR they must be enrolled themself. List of eligible stallions can be found HERE.
When does my consignment form & material need to be submitted?
Consignment form and materials are due NO LATER THAN August 16th. It is recommended to submit as soon as possible as only a limited number will be accepted. Contact Cowpony Sales for Consignment Form.
What do I need to submit for materials?
All consignments should have a minimum of 4 high quality photos (one of each side) submitted as well as a minimum of 3-5 minutes of video showing movement and any special skills. Please refer to our Required Materials List for suggestions. If possible, we recommend hiring a professional for photos and video – the return on investment is worth it.
What is the consignment fee?
Each horse will have a $150 consignment fee.
Can I set a reserve price?
Yes! The reserve price will not be public and will be kept between the consignor and Cowpony Sales. The reserve price can be lowered up to 24 hours prior to the auction ending; however, it cannot be increased.
What fees are due after the sale ends?
When the horse is sold, 8% of the sold price is retained. Of that, 50% goes back into the SDRCHA Stallion Stakes program. If the horse is not sold, no additional fees are due.
When will I get paid?
Payments from buyers are due within 48 hours of the auction closing. Once payments have cleared, sellers will have option to receive payment via a check or Direct Pay within 7 business days after payments have cleared.
Do I need to attend the Road to Texas to participate in the sale?
No. You are not required to be present at the show, nor does the horse have to present. All sales will be done online, with the buyer arranging transportation.
