XI Peptos Cashin Rey – Cute, Kind & Broke
4-Year-Old AQHA Sorrel Gelding | 14+hh | Arena & Trails | Performance Prospect

XI Peptos Cashin Rey (“Cooper”) is a 2021 AQHA Ranching Heritage–bred sorrel gelding by Playboys Smokin Rey. Playboys Smokin Rey is a cornerstone stallion at XI Ranch in Plains, Kansas — a long-standing AQHA Ranching Heritage breeder. Each year, he sires a versatile lineup of ranch, rope, and barrel horses. He is by Dual R Smokin, an Equi-Stat Elite $1 Million Sire whose offspring have earned more than $1.6 million in cutting and reined cow horse events. Dual R Smokin himself boasts over $220,000 in lifetime earnings. On the bottom side, Cooper is out of Feathers Essence, a proven ranch mare with experience in every aspect of day work, along with multiple local barrel jackpot wins.

Cooper is the poster child for a good-minded, broke, safe, and honest gelding. He’s the kind with the foundation and proven cow horse genetics to make a lasting performance or ranch partner. Raised right from the start, Cooper was handled by a youth trainer from six months of age. His owner purchased him after being accepted into the AQHA Ranching Heritage Young Horse Development program at just 13 years old. Through the year-long program, Cooper was cared for solely by his young handler under the guidance of AQHA Program Coordinators. Together they learned the basics — trail at hand, halter and conformation, lunging, trailer loading, tying, nutrition, and daily care. By the end of the program, their bond was unshakable, and Cooper’s training continued into his three-year-old year.

Once he was confidently riding in and out of the arena Cooper went to spend a year in a professional NRCHA training program where he refined his skills and was used for turning back in the practice pen and moving cattle in the pasture. There, he solidified his foundation: soft in the face, broke in the body, quiet in the mind, and responsive to his rider. He’ll ride one- or two-handed, always giving his whole heart and try. He doesn’t get flustered, doesn’t quit, and is always ready for more. Thanks to his slower start under a youth rider, he’s stayed sound, safe, and is suitable for another youth or amateur to carry on with. While his show record is limited, he’s got all the buttons in place — a correct turnaround, smooth gaits, natural collection, balanced movement, and beautiful transitions. His mind is always in the game, and he’s ready to step up as a Ranch Versatility horse, 4-H horse, ranch horse, or fancy trail mount.

Cooper’s been used for light ranch chores, tracked cattle, and turned back in the cutting pen. He does everything a broke horse should: walk, trot, lope, rollbacks, side pass, turnarounds, forehand and haunch turns, open and close gates, and work off your seat and legs. Out on the trail he’s steady and confident, whether riding alone or in company. Water, logs, brush, bridges — he takes it all in stride. He’ll carry a flag, handle tarps, push a ball, and is as traffic safe as they come around cars, trucks, equipment, and ATVs. He stands tied, ground ties, cross ties, hobbles, and loads in the trailer without fuss.

With pedigree, performance, and proven versatility on both sides, Cooper is built to excel as a true all-around prospect. He has the genetics, foundation, and mind to shine in the show pen or carry on the tradition of a dependable ranch horse.

  • Started on ranch chores: tracked cattle and turned back in the cutting pen

  • Gentle, people-loving, easy to catch, trustworthy, and eager to please
  • Versatile prospect: Ranch Versatility, 4-H, ranch work, or a fancy trail horse

Cooper’s pedigree, talent, and eye appeal checks all the boxes for a top prospect. He’s bred to be cowy, quick-footed, and smart — with the kind of mind that makes him just as handy outside on the ranch as he is in the arena. Whether you’re looking for your next versatility horse, rope horse, ranch horse or fancy trail horse with the genetics and talent to back it up, Cooper is your guy. Trustworthy and people-loving, he’s the horse you hate to part with — the real deal. His young owner is headed to college early and wants to see him go on to fulfill his potential.

Cooper is up to date on vaccinations, farrier, worming, coggins, and dental care. Call or text Shelby (507) 613-8496 for more information about Cooper, to come visit him or to video chat.
